Clash of Super Rugby Pacific 2024
Queensland’s Super Rugby Pacific campaign is off to a great start against NSW, but in order to maintain their high position, they will need to break the Hurricanes’ ten-year curse.
The Reds haven’t defeated the Waratahs 40–22 this past week, and although the victory showed a lot of potential, the Hurricanes provide a far different obstacle. The Reds haven’t won two straight since April 2023.
The ‘Canes, who recently won 44–14 in Perth, are now leading Super Rugby Pacific and have been Queensland’s worst team for the last ten years, winning their last seven games with an average score of 36–19.
The Reds’ previous victory over the Wellington team was an 18-13 drubbing in 2013, and a young Tom Lynagh made his Super Rugby debut in that year’s 47-13 thrashing in Townsville. Digby Ioane and Rob Simmons were the team’s heroes that day.
Obviously, it gives us a lot of confidence to start with a win (against the Waratahs), but we know we still have a lot of work to do before the Hurricanes this weekend.
