Moana Pasifika will stage a Super Rugby Game in Tonga

Tonga’s First Super Rugby Game Will Be Hosted by Moana Pasifika. In an effort to promote the sport on the island, Moana Pasifika announced on Wednesday that it will host a Super Rugby match in Tonga for the first time ever in 2019.

Although the 38-man playing roster includes 19 players of Tongan heritage, the club often plays in Auckland, home to a sizable Pacific community.

On May 4, they will play host to the Otago Highlanders at the 10,000-seat Teufaiva Sport Stadium in Nuku’alofa, the capital.

“It’s always been part of our mission to take games to the Pacific, to invest in these communities and give our fans in the Islands the chance to watch the team in their own backyard,” Pelenato, the chief executive of Moana, said.

“It shows them what’s possible and allows our players to showcase their talent in front of their families.”

Ten more Moana players and playmaker William Havili were included in Tonga’s World Cup roster.

“We are excited about continuing to show that we are capable of hosting these international competitions,” stated Prime Minister Siaosi Sovaleni of Tonga, who also serves as the organization’s president.
