Wigglesworth, who was instrumental in the club’s success as a coach and player, started for Tigers in the 2022 Premiership final. Wigglesworth a seven-time Premiership winner, has participated in 322 Premiership games, setting a record most league appearances. “To be inducted into the Hall of Fame is a really special moment for me and my family,” stated Wigglesworth. I’m honoured to have received this recognition because I enjoyed participating in the Premiership for so many years. Gallagher has awarded Richard Wigglesworth, 2340 for the Leicester Tigers, with his induction into the Premiership Rugby Hall of Fame.

“I was very ambitious and wanted to win with my friends and support the teams that I played on. I just really loved what I did.” I consider myself fortunate to have the work I have now and to continue be involved with rugby. However, nothing can ever compare to giving it your all each week as a player and taking pleasure in the process as you go. Every club’s first title was always particularly meaningful. First, I won the title with all of my friends at the age of 21 with Sale Sharks, a northern team that was nearest to my hometown.

After nine years at Sale, I then made the bold decision to go to Saracens. From that South African influence, Sarries developed into a group of young English guys who had attended the same Academy. It was also incredible to defeat a team I played for one that hadn’t lost a championship in a long time while finishing it with the Leicester Tigers. “To top it all off, we packed so much into so little time to win the Premiership with Leicester, and we did so thanks to a remarkable turnaround under Steve Borthwick.”

Richard Wigglesworth

“Richard is one of the most decorated players in Premiership Rugby history and is now seeking the same success as a coach,” stated Phil Winstanley, Rugby Director at Premiership Rugby. For news The Daily Rugby

“He set a record with 322 Premiership Rugby appearances, and given how long his career lasted at the highest level, I believe it will be some time before anyone approaches this number of games.”

“It’s incredible that you won seven Premiership titles with the Sale Sharks, Saracens, and Leicester Tigers, but it’s truly amazing that you did so fifteen years apart.”

“Richard is a fantastic guy off the pitch in addition to his incredible skill on it, and we are honoured to induct him into the Premiership Rugby Hall of Fame this year alongside Paul Sackey and Danny Grewcock.”
