Super Rugby 2022 : The Queensland Reds will take on Force in pre-season

The Queensland Reds will take on the New South Wales Waratahs and the Western Force in pre-season fixtures next month as preparations for the inaugural Super Rugby Pacific competition ramp up .

Queensland were scheduled to play the Force in Geraldton, however border complications due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic have seen the game shift to the East coast. The two sides will do battle in a closed trial at Ballymore on Saturday February 5, with the game set to be live-streamed exclusively to Reds email subscribers.

The following weekend will see the Roma Echidnas host historical rivals Queensland and New South Wales on Saturday February 12. The match shapes as the centrepiece of the second annual Santos Festival of Rugby, with the club hosting two days of action including the Santos Roma Rugby 7s.

When does Super Rugby Pacific 2022 start?

The Super Rugby competition will begin on February 18 2022, with the regular season to finish May 29 2022.

The Super Rugby Pacific final will be played on June 18 2022.

Reds General Manager – Professional Rugby Sam Cordingley said: “It’s great to have our trial schedule for 2022 confirmed.

“We’ve been working closely with the Force on our pre-season fixture.

“It’s unfortunate due border restrictions that we aren’t able to travel to Western Australia, but we’re pleased to have found a solution for both teams and are thankful to the Force for their cooperation.

“Last year’s Santos Festival of Rugby in Narrabri was a great success and we’re looking forward to hosting the event in our home state this year.

“A major focus for everyone at the Reds is connecting with our state and people who we represent, and our trip to Roma is another opportunity to do just that.”
