The 15th Oceania Sevens Rugby competition in men’s rugby sevens will take place in 2023 at the Oceania 7s Championship. It will take place from November 10–12 at Brisbane, Australia’s Ballymore Stadium and act as the regional qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympic Sevens.

Each of the three pools of five teams had a seed.
The three Oceania countries that have previously qualified—Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand—as well as Niue, which is not Olympic-eligible, and the Oceania Sevens invitational team—the Barbarians—are grouped in Pool A to give contending nations a clear path to the 2024 Summer Olympic Sevens. For Olympic qualification, the remaining teams are seeded into Pools B and C.
The Olympic qualifying berth was determined by a playoff between the Pool B and Pool C winners.

25 teams from the Pacific, including the men’s and women’s Australian teams, gather at Ballymore Stadium for the Oceania 7s. Over the course of three days, there will be 66 matches (35 men’s and 31 women’s).
Some see it as a last adjustment prior to the redesigned HSBC SVNS Series. For others, it was an opportunity to guarantee Olympic qualification for 2024 Paris.

Oceania 7s Championship Men’s and Women’s Worldwide
Australia’s men and women finished second and sixth in the World Series last year, respectively, so they are already guaranteed a spot at the Olympics next year.
As a result, they will compete in pools unrelated to Olympic qualification, although their last warm-up match before the first-ever (and renamed) SVNS Series begins in Dubai on December 2–3 will not be without drama.
Five members of the Australian men’s team experienced World Series victory in 2021–2022; eleven of the thirteen women picked are current Commonwealth and World Cup champions.
In Pool A, the Australian men will compete against Fiji, New Zealand, Niue, and an Oceania Barbarians team. The top two teams will advance to an Oceania 7s Championship final to compete for regional bragging rights.
Over the course of three days, Australia’s women will play five matches against a New Zealand Development team. The Black Fern 7s are the defending World Series champions, so don’t be duped by the development tag; they have a talented roster of up-and-coming players.
